Why are the sounds of ocean waves crashing on the shore so comforting? Is it because all living things on earth originated in water? Or is the reason I’m enjoying this pleasure more subjective in nature due to early personal experience?

I think it’s because we’re just as much a part of nature as those waves crashing on the shore.
That’s true. As far removed as we think we are from nature, the truth is, nature is alive and very much inside of ourselves.
That sound is surprisingly comforting. Falls in line with my fascination with the dichotomy of clear skies and thunderous clouds – I absolutely love to see, on a summer day, blue sky and sun when looking in one direction and dark ominous clouds looking in the opposite direction.
I don’t know if I’ve ever experienced that. Sounds really cool though. The extreme contrast.
