There is one question I ask myself everyday as a healthcare provider. How do I maintain patience and compassion for those under my care while being productive in a fast paced, and at times, dehumanizing system that requires a high level of productivity?
That’s a tough question. It applies to most service providers; educators, social workers, counselors, etc. Burn-out is common, though I think can be minimized by peer support, and of course rejuvenization through other activities, be they social or personal. It’s very individual. Yet even so, there maybe a need for path change at some point. Also tough. Also personal.
Yes I agree that activities can be helpful to cope with burn out. I’m a long time meditator and I can’t imagine my life without it. Allowing the mind to settle and rest actively is very important. Also, just doing something fun with the family can also be therapeutic. Path change, yes also a possibility. That’s where my book comes in. Hoping to transition from PT to author someday. It’s a dream of mine.
This is a topic which is near to my heart… Take care! Where are
